A boy dealing with the loss of his father describes the many waves of emotion that come with the grieving process: sad waves, mad waves, fear waves, even happy waves. As Toby and his family learn to adjust to life without Dad, the waves still come but, with help from friends, they learn to cope and heal. This lyric story provides a sensitive account of one family's journey through grief and healing.

Author description

Holly Thompson was raised in New England and earned a MA in English from NYU's Creative Writing Program. She is the author of Falling Into the Dragons Mouth, The Language Inside, and Orchards. Longtime resident of Japan, she teaches creative writing at Yokohama City University, U.C. Berkeley Extension, and Boston's Grub Street Creative Writing Center. Ashley Crowley is a graphic designer, illustrator, and full-time police officer. He lives in the UK with his family.
