J. C. Burke was born in Sydney in 1965, the fourth of five sisters. In 1984, she trained as a nurse after her mother lost a long battle with cancer, and worked for several years in London and Sydney. In 1999 she began a mentorship with Gary Crew and wrote WHITE LIES (Lothian, 2002), a CBC Notable Book. Jane lives on Sydney's Northern Beaches and is married with two children.
